Elon Musk is ready to take his Boring Company's tunnels outside of California.

The eccentric businessman outlined potential sites for his tunnels in a series of new tweets, teasing an East Coast network of the super-fast underground transportation vehicles.

Musk cited "verbal government approval" for his new projects, which would conceivably connect major eastern US cities like New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington DC.

BBC reporter Dave Lee (and others) questioned why Musk dropped an announcement after only a "verbal" approval from unnamed government officials. This would likely be a massive project that would involve officials from multiple cities, states, and the federal government all working together —not to mention the small matter of the fact that Hyperloop technology only existing in theory and slick concept videos, not reality.

Lee asked if Musk took to Twitter to garner public support for the project, which would be a savvy move by one of the platform's most important personalities. Looks like that might be what he's after, at least to start.

Other curious Elon fans wanted to know where else the tunnels might be in the future. Ask, and you shall receive: Musk said that his master plan for US dominationBoring sites could include a tunnel between Los Angeles and San Francisco (where an above-ground Hyperloop has been teased for a few years now) and some network connecting the major urban areas across Texas.

Musk took a break after his initial flurry of tweets, before coming back down to Earth (or wherever it is he lives) and admitting that an actual approval for his plan might be more work than he initially led on.

New York City Mayor Press Secretary Eric Phillips had a simple response to the series of tweets, shared by most of Twitter: ...what?

A quick half-hour commute between NYC and DC and less traffic around other major urban centers sounds exciting — but we'll wait for more details, like an officialgovernment approval (and, ya know, an actual working Hyperloop) before we start planning our trips.

UPDATE: July 20, 2017, 4:09 p.m. EDT This story was updated to include Musk's final tweet and the NYC Mayor Press Sec.'s response, because even billionaire masterminds need to get checked to be put back in touch with reality sometimes.

UPDATE: July 20, 2017, 4:50 p.m. EDT The Boring Company provided Reuters reporter David Shepardson with a statement, while Musk tweeted again to urge his followers to contact local officials about the project. As a New York City resident dealing with the subway, I'm not optimistic.
